Rebuilding Lives

Minister of Human Settlements Hands Over New Home to Fire-Affected Kekana Family

In a heartwarming display of community upliftment, Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, recently handed over a newly rebuilt home to the Kekana family, a family of eleven who had been left without shelter following a devastating fire.

The tragic event destroyed their home, leaving them destitute and in urgent need of assistance.

Minister Simelane was joined by Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, and the City of Johannesburg MMC for Human Settlements, Mlungisi Mabaso, in presenting the rebuilt house to the family. This act of compassion and support was made possible through the intervention of the Department of Human Settlements, alongside its entities, the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC) and the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC).

The Kekana family’s journey, from the destruction caused by the fire to the hope and stability provided by the new home, highlights the importance of coordinated efforts in disaster relief and community development. The partnership between government departments and housing entities played a crucial role in restoring not just a home, but a sense of dignity and security for the family.

This story stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to improving lives and ensuring that vulnerable families are not left behind. Through initiatives like this, communities are empowered, and hope is restored, one home at a time.
